BIRMINGHAM CHAPTER ACTIVITIES
Since 2011, The Birmingham Chapter of The Links, Inc. has sponsored teams from Phillips Academy in the JUNA program held at Birmingham Southern College. JUNA stands for Junior United Nations Assembly of Alabama and is a student-led mock United Nations Assembly. JUNA exposes the students to different world views and multiple perspectives on how to solve a global issue. It expands horizons and opens students minds. JUNA is a chance to invest in the next generation. The Links sponsorship of student teams supports the International Trends and Services global platform to strengthen its work with the United Nations. Model UN programs engage grade school and college students to become informed and active citizens of this changing world.
J.A.M.S. – Joining Artists and Music in Our Schools, is a newly launched signature project developed by the Birmingham (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. The JAMS program focuses on exposing students to Music and related Arts. Members of the Birmingham (AL) Chapter realize that music presents the opportunity for universal communication and expression. We hope to make a profound difference in the lives of Middle School students by expanding their exposure to various music genres and instruments.
Susan G. Komen For the Cure
In 2011, The Birmingham (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Circle of Promise hosted a reception featuring the Global Ambassador for the Circle of Promise, LisaRaye McCoy. The goal set for the event was exceeded and proceeds were used to provide free mammograms for women without the means to afford them. The Birmingham (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is committed to spreading the word concerning the prevention of breast cancer. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is one of the Birmingham Chapter’s annual service projects.
